YOU can make a difference!

Bushnell's Basin is continually looking for people interested in helping their neighbors and the community.  We currently have more than 65 of your neighbors serving in our department.  Membership in our association is not limited to just firefighters.   We have administrative positions to assist with general operations and dispatcher positions to assist with emergency communications.  The Emergency Services we provide include, but are not limited to, fire suppression, rescue, motor vehicle extrication, EMS and Fire Prevention & Public Education.  Our paycheck comes in the form of self-satisfaction from a job well done.  The expression on the faces of a family, whose home you've just saved or the victims of a motor vehicle accident, who you've just treated and reduced their pain, is absolutely priceless.  There is no feeling in the world like it!

Do you want to improve the quality of life in our community?  Can you donate some of your valuable time?

If you answered YES, visit our Station #1 at 683 Pittsford Victor Road, any Monday evening between 7:30 and 9:30 PM.  Representatives of our Membership Committee will be happy to answer all of your questions, go over the application process with you and will be happy to guide you on a tour of our facility and any training being conducted at that time.

Members of Bushnell's Basin receive ALL training and equipment required to carry out the duties of a firefighter.  Drill is conducted each Monday night, from 7:30 - 9:30 PM., covering all facets of   firefighting including the annual mandatory training requirements established by the State & Federal governments.  Initial training will take you through the OSHA Basic Firefighter requirements and subsequent training will allow you to certify as an NFPA Level I and II Firefighter.  Training consists of classroom and hands-on practical sessions.  These hands-on sessions are designed to give the firefighter actual experience and also to instill confidence in the firefighter.  Much of the training is conducted in-house by qualified instructors with additional classes being taught, by County and State instructors, at several sites around Monroe County.   These sites include the Public Safety Training Facility located on Scottsville Road, just south of Route 390.  The PSTF will offer state of the art instruction in all areas of fire suppression, including aircraft rescue and firefighting.   All training, in-house or otherwise, complies with current regulations to ensure the safety of the firefighter.  CPR and more advanced emergency medical training is also available to our members.  These classes are usually conducted in-house, but are occasionally offered at one of the neighboring fire stations or at the Perinton Volunteer Ambulance facility on Turk Hill Road.  Training is also provided for those members not directly involved in firefighting.

With your enthusiasm and our training, You CAN and WILL make a difference.
