          The Bushnell’s Basin Fire Association, Incorporated, established in 1940, protects the southwest area of the Town of Perinton, New York.   Primarily a residential area, Bushnell’s Basin is home to approximately 12000 people.  A large area of the Route 96 corridor is congested with multiple story office complexes and hotels housing more than 6000 people on a daily basis.  Also included in the district are 3 of the main routes leading into the City of Rochester, Route 31 from the east, Route 96 from the south and Route 490 from the New York State Thruway.  These highways are some of the heaviest traveled in Monroe County.

           Bushnell’s Basin firefighters provide fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials response, mutual aid and non-transport emergency medical services.  Members continually train to maintain the highest levels of proficiency through in-house training as well as participation in County, State and National programs.  Currently staffed by more than 60 volunteers, the organization responded to almost 400 calls for assistance in 2007.  Along with emergency services, an on-going Public Education program is offered and last year more than 700 area children took part in that program.  Safety training is also provided to local adult groups as well as employees of local businesses.

          One of only a few in New York State, Bushnell’s Basin Fire Association is a Fire Protection District.  As a private corporation, Bushnell's Basin contracts with the Town of Perinton and in turn the operations are supported through tax dollars and private donations.

          A proud member of the 3rd Battalion of Monroe County, Bushnell's Basin also works very closely with the Perinton Volunteer Ambulance Corp.  Operating out of 2 stations, with a fleet of 9 emergency vehicles, Bushnell's Basin has grown to be a respected leader in the emergency services community.
